Every once in a while, persistence pays off. Not often, but when it happens, I need to sit back and savor the moment. I have just installed the latest version of BlogEngine.net (V1.5.0.7 as I write) and I am loving the results! This tool delivers the responsiveness I should have gotten from my Wordpress blog, but just wasn't happening. With Wordpress, the site would bog down with just me reloading it, and I could never get SuperCache to work on the shared IIS server. It was slow to the point of me not being comfortable driving traffic to the site, which is not good for a blog, right?
The fundamental difference that I have noticed with BlogEngine.net is that all of the content is stored by default as XML data. This means that there is no database connectivity or setup, but I am worried about scalability, as this is essentially a file-based system. I am wondering if the caching capabilities in IIS make this a better choice, but I have to say that on shared hosting, this is the most responsive blog software I have tried.
I am going to push forward with BlogEngine.net and see how things go. I don't expect to run into any problems with huge amounts of visitors commenting, so it is possible that this system will work for my needs. I certainly love the feature set and it has everything that I would need for the forseeable future. Again, I can't help but be impressed with the speed as I bang away at updates and reloads. I haven't been able to find any real scalability problems from anyone else using BlogEngine, so off we go!
