What to say? Here is the new blog. It’s shiny, it still has that new blog smell, and it is really light on content. Why am I so late to the party? Why start a traditional blog now when microblogging is all of the rage? I think there were a few reasons for this, some business driven and some personal. Business-wise, I needed to research the best blogging tools for my customers, and jump in feet first. Wordpress is my choice and I am impressed so far, and experimenting with driving the entire site through Wordpress. This will give me chance to look at site performance, as well as a way for me to work on best practices for SEO and all things web. I have been told that I have a knack for stringing words together, so it makes sense for to write about something. The hard part is convincing myself that whatever I write about is going to be of interest to anyone else. After my 1,000th troll-like post to someone else’s blog about some topic I care about, I finally have decided that my content should be for my benefit and shown on my web site. Enough with the free witticisms for other bloggers! So as this is the big kick-off, let’s lay out some goals for success. This blog can be considered a success when:
- Wordpress has been successfully installed on my shared windows hosting environment
- This site has been designed and customized enough to be considered distinctive and/or attractive
- Something that I write makes someone else’s day just a little bit better
So that is going to be my initial plans for success. The good news for me is that I am one-third of the way there, as I have been able to work through all of the configurations and settings (including some not-so-clear SMTP mail options) to have a working blog on my site. Now off to do the redesign!
